Kitchen Gadget Trends 2026: Colour, Matte Black, Citrus
Three emails, one Pantone number
In one week in February I got three private-label enquiries that opened the same way: a Pantone reference, then a quantity. No greeting, no logo question. Just the colour and the number of units.
Five years ago the same email started with the logo. Where does the name go, how big, engraved or printed. That conversation has moved somewhere else, and it took the mould out of the equation.
Colour now carries the brand on the shelf and in the feed, and the logo has shrunk to a small deboss or a laser line. One squeezer casting runs six colourways without new tooling, which is why a whole assortment can come out of a single SKU family.
What to check in a supplier has changed with it. Not mould variety any more. Whether the coating line holds a match lot after lot, and whether coloured plating on zinc happens on site or somewhere nobody visits.
Matte black became a baseline
It arrived as a trend piece and then stopped being one. Matte black is now the default premium look across kitchen hardware, and it no longer signals trendiness so much as the fact that somebody took the product seriously.
It is also the hardest finish to hold. Pigment loading is high, so a thin film chalks in weeks rather than seasons. Buyers have learned that the hard way somewhere along the line, because the matte black enquiries now arrive with adhesion and dishwasher-cycle questions attached.
Which is the right way to ask, and about five years ahead of where this category used to be.
Citrus stopped being a gimmick
Home cocktail culture was supposed to be a lockdown phase. It settled in instead, and the tools moved from the gimmick shelf to the everyday drawer.
The enquiries reflect it. Press, clip, reamer and zester ordered as one program rather than a single squeezer, pitched at home bars and mocktail households as much as at cooks. The mocktail side broadened the audience, because a household that does not drink still wants fresh juice.
This is the steadiest growth in our order mix, and it runs from supermarket private label to premium housewares without changing character.
Gelato dragged its tools into retail
Premium frozen dessert kept growing at home through every wobble in the economy, and expectations moved up with it. Heat-conductive cast scoops, spades, graduated dippers. Foodservice purchases five years ago, retail programs now, with packaging that explains a cast scoop against a spring disher.
The education became part of the product. Brands that explain the tool sell the premium version of it. The ones that print a photo and a barcode sell the cheap one, and then wonder where the margin went.

Frequently asked questions
What kitchen gadget categories are growing fastest for 2026?
From our inquiry mix, citrus tools and premium frozen-dessert tools show the steadiest growth, with set-based gift programs close behind. Colour-programmed assortments are the fastest-growing way of buying.
Are matte black finishes safe for food contact?
Yes, when the coating is a food-contact-rated system applied and tested properly. We run FDA 21 CFR 175.300 and LFGB-rated coatings with cross-hatch adhesion checks per lot.
Can trend colours be run on existing moulds?
Yes. One casting runs multiple colourways without new tooling, matched to a Pantone reference on our own coating line. That is how buyers build an assortment without mould investment.
